How Can I Help?
Everyone is doing a great job in helping us to spread the word about the Blue Ridge Parkway Specialty Motorcycle License Plate. Your ideas have been appreciated and the Foundation is well under way to reach its goal. As of today, we are finally there! We now have 302 applications of the 300 needed (updated 1/05/09).
One of the more common questions we get, is “How can I help?”. Right now, there are 3 main ways you can help:
1.) If you’re a North Carolina resident, and you own a motorcycle, THEN BUY THE TAG! You can get an application on the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation’s web site. Simply download the application now and send it in.
2.) Spread the Word! The main way we will get enough tag registrants to get this specialty tag approved is to let others know about it. We put our heads together and then asked our friends at Virtual Blue Ridge if they could help us develop something for getting the word out on the Internet. They came back with some good ideas. One of those is a “thermometer” that you can place on your web site or blog. You can see it to your right in this blog post. It’s just a few lines of code you can easily add to your site, and it links right to this page. To install the “thermometer” on your site, simply copy the code below and put it in the HTML source of your web site or blog:

We all look forward to see this great license plate on North Carolina motorcycles next year and your help is what will allow us to do that.

I received my tag too. I paid for a personalized plate, but got a number.
I’m on a trip, so I didn’t get to see it in person. I’m told it looks nice.
5-26-9 today I have recived the BRM plate.It does look good. But Is a bit on the thin side, and one will need a SOLID 4 bold plate to attach it to so it does’nt bend. Would have been stiffer if it were pressed and not printed

Once the Division of Motor Vehicles receives the plates from the manufacturer, we will begin issuing the plates. The plates will be mailed to the individuals that requested the plates. If we need additional information before the plate can be issued and mailed, a letter will be mailed to the customer with instructions on how to obtain their plate.
The aluminum that is being used for the motorcycle plates is being used for personalized car license plates also and for many other specialty plates. It is not being used for the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation motorcycle plate only.

The Division of Motor Vehicles has received the required 300 applications for the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation motorcycle license plate. The Division of Motor Vehicles has been working with the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation to create the plate with the design and colors that they have requested. Please keep in mind that this is the first specialty motorcycle license plate that will be issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles; therefore, it is a new manufacturing process for the Department of Corrections. Specialty motorcycle plates were not issued in the past because the plates were so small and if the letters were embossed, there was only enough space on the plate for two numbers. With the new digital printing of special plates, we are able to create a specialty motorcycle plate that will allow space for a maximum of four numbers.
The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation and the North Carolina Highway Patrol have approved the sample Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation motorcycle plate and the plates are being manufactured at this time. We hope to receive them from the manufacturer within the next two to three weeks.

Got My Mc plate renewal today and they have no idea about the BRM plates, nor when they were or if they were going to be made cause of all the cut backs. as per DMV. Any Idea if is any truth to this or will the plates be made>
Is there any time frame ” DAYS, WEEKS, MONTHS” AS TO WHEN WE CAN EXEPCT THE PLATES.
I cannot wait to receive the plate. I’ll have to wash and wax my bike to honor it.

get the message to blue ridge harley in hickory nc i think i have bp #1242 on my truck but my bike is in a state of disrepair or i would help out myself
How about another PR release to NC media outlets, detailing that we need 85 more applications to get the tags pressed.
We have a letter from the superintendent of the NC Highway patrol approving the design for the 4 letter position. NC DMV must concur but we have no reason to expect that they won’t.

Have they decided if the plates will have 3 or 4 numbers yet? I was just thinking… if they decide on only 3 numbers, once we reach 300 applications and they start making plates, only 699 more plate can be issued. Everyone else will just envey us.

You should change the first paragraph of this web page a little more. The word “halfway” should be deleted. We are way past halfway! Yea!
It should read: “As of today, we are almost there: 200 applications of the 300 needed (updated 6/24/08).”
On a personal note, my brothers and I rode the Parkway last weekend. I have never been on it. I was so impressed!! Can’t wait to do it again.
Hi Gene! As you can see I have been found. I just received an updated # on tag applications received so far. Updates are sporadic since weeks can go by without any applications coming in, then the next time several will arrive all at once. Thank you for your continued interest and support!
What happened to Tanna???? This site has not been updated since 5/30/08. I was hoping to get BRP plates before our big ride this weekend

The best publicity for our tags will be the day the first tags are seen on motorcycles.

I think i know why you have lots of people asking what the current count is…

I think if you delete the “February 29th, 2008, we are almost halfway there:” part it would be less confusing.
Then it would read: As of today, there are 181 applications of the 300 needed. (updated 5/27/08)
The plate is shown as now available on the NCDOT on-line ordering website. Are there more orders than you are tracking through your organization? I do not want to lose my 1st choice request.
The total number of applications now comes to 175 as of 4/29/08.

With this year’s increase in gas prices and the growing popularity of motorcycles among many (including retirees – me), isn’t it appropriate to pursue this again with VADMV? There are so many of us who use the Parkway as the pristine motorcycle route. I would proudly sport a personalized Blue Ridge Parkway Tag!
Hi, thanks for your suggestion. I wish we could populate every state with specialty tags for the Blue Ridgeb Parkway, but the reality is that there are now too many — particularly in Virginia. The Blue Ridge Parkway introduced legislation some years ago for automobiles, and despite a very agressive marketing campaign by a number of Parkway partnres, we were only able to attract 23 applications.
Virginia bikers love the Parkway too! How about one for us?
