Are Pets Allowed on the Blue Ridge Parkway?

September 1st, 2009 Virtual Blue Ridge Go to comments

Common Question:
We are planning a trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway for camping and hiking. Are we allowed to take our dogs into campgrounds and on trails?

Answer:
Pets on leashes are allowed on all areas of the Blue Ridge Parkway including parks, campgrounds, picnic areas and trails.

National Park Service regulations state:
“All dogs, cats, and other pets must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet or under physical restraint at all times while in the park. Pet owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets.”
