Signed, Sealed, And Delivered – Over 300 Tags Sent To NC DMV
All it took was 300 applications to get noticed.
Typing that number just now it sort of feels like such a miniscule number, and doesn’t even come close to reflecting the major efforts put forth by individuals, businesses, and good old fashioned “word of mouth” news that there was major interest from motorcyclists to display their support of the Blue Ridge Parkway with motorcycle tags.
“It is all in their hands now,” said Bob Henard, one of the tag’s volunteer champions, with a sigh of relief. Foundation executive director Houck Medford and Bob Henard presented a full three-ring binder and a check for more than $11,000 to Kay Hatcher, head of the specialty license tag unit at the North Carolina DMV office in Raleigh last week.
So now we wait . . . let’s just hope we can get the tags in time for some spring rides!

Once the Division of Motor Vehicles receives the plates from the manufacturer, we will begin issuing the plates. The plates will be mailed to the individuals that requested the plates. If we need additional information before the plate can be issued and mailed, a letter will be mailed to the customer with instructions on how to obtain their plate.
The aluminum that is being used for the motorcycle plates is being used for personalized car license plates also and for many other specialty plates. It is not being used for the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation motorcycle plate only.
I apologize for any incorrect information, you might have received and if I can assist you further, please let me know.
Thanks,
Kay Hatcher

The Division of Motor Vehicles has received the required 300 applications for the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation motorcycle license plate. The Division of Motor Vehicles has been working with the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation to create the plate with the design and colors that they have requested. Please keep in mind that this is the first specialty motorcycle license plate that will be issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles; therefore, it is a new manufacturing process for the Department of Corrections. Specialty motorcycle plates were not issued in the past because the plates were so small and if the letters were embossed, there was only enough space on the plate for two numbers. With the new digital printing of special plates, we are able to create a specialty motorcycle plate that will allow space for a maximum of four numbers.
The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation and the North Carolina Highway Patrol have approved the sample Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation motorcycle plate and the plates are being manufactured at this time. We hope to receive them from the manufacturer within the next two to three weeks.
If I can assist you further, please let me know.
Thanks,
Kay Hatcher
HAS anyone recived their Plate YET??????????????
Is DMV Still Playing sub par metal and has local law enforcement been informed of the new motorcycle plate?
It will not be a shrunk-down version of the automobile tag.
Houck Medford
Executive Director
Why a new color scheme? Is not not going to be like the one on the application? Now I wonder if I really want one not knowing what I am going to get.
You mean the new plate isn’t going to look like the one on the applications ?
They have the 300 applicants, but what they did was take the blue ridge parkway license plate and shrink it down, which the park was not satisfied with. DMV is currently drafting a new plate with a new color scheme now and will get to the park for their approval very soon. She explained that this is the first motorcycle tag and therefore it is a learning experience for all!
Yeah! now to wait for DMV speed to produce and distrubute the plates. Hope I still have the same bike
Thanks for the work – can’t wait to ride with pride on BRP with the new plate.
YES, WE MADE IT. CANT WAIT TO HEAR MORE NEWS ABOUT THE STAMPING,AND DISTRIBUTION OF THESE PLATES! PLEASE KEEP US INFORMED
